Why Reading the Bible is Important

The primary way that God speaks to us today is through His living and active Word.  As you fellowship with Him daily and cling to His every Word you will learn how to have a vital healthy spiritual life that is empowered by the Holy Spirit.  Because you are filled with His love your life will overflow with good fruit, furthering His Kingdom by making disciples. 

  • To develop a personal "interactive" relationship with God.  This takes commitment, devotion and time.  You must sit at His feed daily so you can learn to actively listen and hear Him speak.  
  • To develop heart-knowledge as well as head-knowledge of God.  When you hear and read God's word, you faith grows.  When you obey God and learn to trust Him your behavior and actions change.
  • To lear God's will and purpose for your life.  God wants you to understand clearly what He wants you to do in this life.  He shares His secrets with those who diligently seek Him.  
  • To acquire wisdom through knowledge.  "To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"  Proverbs 1:7
  • To learn God's character and who He is.  To do this you must read the Bible in its entirety-Old and New Testaments.
  • To understand God's Holiness.  In God's Word, He gives you a framework; it is a moral compass to help you know "how" to live your life and "what" God expects from you.
  • To understand God's redemptive plan for all humanity through His Son Jesus Christ.  Through our faith in Jesus, we are adopted into the family of God, made right in His sight, and given the free gift of eternal life.
  • To learn and claim God's promises, you must grow in knowledge and faith. 
  • To learn how to have healthy loving relationships.  God gives you guidelines of relationships in marriage, family, friendships and work relations. 
  • To protect you from harm.  The Bible is a 'lamp unto my feet", filled with warnings to help you stay on the right path.
  • To gain understanding of the Spiritual realm, God has given you all the tools necessary to engage in and win this spiritual battle against Satan
  • To equip you to share the Gospel.  "So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into His fields."  Luke 10:2
  • To learn God's prophetic plan from the beginning to the end of time.
